Design & Build Quality
At first glance, the JJRC X5 FPV drone looks to be some kind of sci-fi high tech drone packed with all fancy design. It features jet white coating around its main body framework with a gray slab on the top. I like how this drone is designed, especially with the brushless motors that are nicely placed on the top of arms. It’s also especially very important to mention that this drone is crafted with durable and thick ABS plastic that makes it tough to break.
Underneath the drone, there’s a slot that you can mount the 1080P HD camera. Remember, this is completely optional, so you can choose to fly with or without if you want to. It won’t have an impact on its overall flight time, so it would probably be a better idea to just leave the camera on regardless. In addition to that, the JJRC X5 drone is elevated thanks to its legs. Which provides support and reduces the impact of landing.
When it comes to flying the drone, it features four bright LED lights. This is especially very helpful because it provides strong visual assistance during the flight operation. The battery is located in the back that can be easily inserted and removed using your hands. Design-wise, we think the JJRC X5 FPV drone has one of the best appearances. It’s durable, tough, and of course, professional-looking that is packed with amazing style.
Performance
In the next part of the JJRC X5 drone review, we’re going to talk about its flight performance. The most important part of this drone is the GPS module. You’ve guessed it right because that module provides stability and precise flight controls that make it easier for beginners and complete newbies to fly this drone right out of the box. Not only it is easier to fly smart camera drones these days, but they also come with intelligent flight modes.
The JJRC X5 FPV drone can perform Follow Me and Point of Interest (Orbit Mode). To activate this feature, simply select yourself as the target and the drone will automatically proceed with these intelligent flight modes. Another major performance advantage that this drone is built-in brushless motors that generates more power without draining the battery quickly. This allows for a longer flight time up to 18 minutes.
Thanks to its strong propulsion force, the JJRC X5 FPV drone can fly outdoor and handle light to moderate winds without any issue. This drone has a maximum remote control distance of up to 500 meters which is easy to reach because it has a good flight time. That way you can capture stunning aerial shots from different angles. Or to race around without having to worry too much about the distance.
Camera
The JJRC X5 Epik drone is equipped with a mountable 1080P HD camera which does a good job at delivering quality images and videos at 30 frames per second. Unlike some of the most popular drones such as the HS100G which features an optimized camera, the JJRC X5 drone uses a mounted camera that has a limited range up to 300 meters. At the price tag that this drone is going for, I’d consider it above the average since some camera drones only provide FPV mode up to 100 meters.
Furthermore, you can stream the video directly to your smartphone in real-time. This feature allows you to pilot the JJRC X5 FPV drone without having you to look at it. But, we don’t recommend that you fly the drone out of your line of sight. As a rule of thumb, always keep the drone in your line of sight while you capture shots or produce videos. Camera-wise, the quality of images and videos that it has to offer is pretty good for starters.
Remote Controller
This is another important part of the JJRC X5 drone review. In this section, we’ll talk about the remote controller. First of all, this might look a bit bulky and complex for new drone users. But, I can promise you that it isn’t the case. The remote controller is straightforward and easy enough for beginners to fly the drone right out of the box. This remote controller is equipped with dual antennas that provide strong and reliable signals.
Next and below to the levers are the buttons which are for trimming and elevation. The buttons located above the levers are features that you can use to adjust altitude hold or to enter the headless mode. Even if you need to recall the drone, you can do with a push of a button. Most of its advanced features such as Follow Me and Orbit mode can be accessed via the app on your smartphone. You’ll have to download the app that is provided in the user manual.
Customer Experience
The JJRC X5 drone has an average of 4.2 out 5 in Amazon, with over 230 customer ratings. Those who loved their purchase commend the drone for its efficient flying performance. There is nothing the drone users could ask for. Well, except for extra batteries to enjoy flying the drone longer. But besides that, they highly recommend this drone to all drone fliers. They guarantee fellow fliers won’t be disappointed with this purchase.
Conclusion
To wrap up the JJRC X5 drone review, this is a quadcopter that looks very promising and exciting for beginners. It’s packed with a lot of awesome features that make flying much easier thanks to the built-in GPS module. If you’re looking to upgrade your drone from one of these cheap toy-grade quadcopters under $50 to a smart camera drone like the JJRC X5 FPV drone. You’ll be happy with what this quadcopter has to offer.
Altogether, this is a drone outfitted with incredible durability, superior performance, and fun, engaging features that keeps you busy while delivering great aerial shots. Best of all, you get to fly a smart camera drone that is super easy to fly. No prior flying experience required at all. You can check it out here for more information. Happy flying and fly smart!
Hello Dear Keith,
I was sent an unusual model of this drone.
The one I received is exactly the same but with screw mounted props.
The top thumb screw is just a push on, pull with 2 screws securing the props.
Also it has a 2K camera mounted and states that on the camera on both sides.
Also it came with 2 batteries, 1 missing not in the drone.
The battery capacity is clealy marked as 2420 MAH and not the usual 1800.
It flies for about 30 minutes according to my time piece as well.
I paid $249.00 but it so strange as it creates only 100k images.
Something is very odd and it flies great and does everything it is supposed to do.
I can not find anyone selling this exact drone and I am wondering if it was a prortype that never sold.
It was also brand new and states EVIK on the carton.
I only ordered a FOLLW ME drong without it even stating EVIK in the listing.
It uses the app by JJRC X but there are no camera settings adjustable at all.
I am wondering what this thing really is as noone I write ever heard of this.
It states JJRC on the top of the drone, no referrence to PRo or anything else.
Everything else seems to be exactly what the X5 is and it is a great drone.
I uae a alcatel wifi info: COMMS WLAN
Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, dual-band, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, hotspot
Bluetooth
4.1, A2DP
It can be set at either 2.4 or 5 ghz setting so it sees through the fpv view on the drone when flying nut does not mention AC version of wifi but it still works with zero lag.
This setup is a total mystery to me as it should not work at all.
The controller is spot on and I have flown it four times without a hitch and it lands exactly on my launch pad every time.
The camera control is also nice and slow and very smooth as well.
How can this all work so well, am I dreaming?
